NICCI LONG
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
Occupational Therapist, Nicci Long graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1997 with BSc Hons in Occupational Therapy. Since then she has worked in the field of paediatrics offering assessment and therapy services in both the private and public sector.
Following a move to the UK in 2000 Nicci worked as a community paediatric OT for the NHS for four years before moving into the private sector where she has worked in clinic settings well as mainstream and special schools and people’s homes. Nicci has worked with children and young people with a variety of needs including DCD, dyspraxia, ADHD, ASD, cerebral palsy, sensory integration difficulties, attachment disorders and more recently has taken in interest in working with children with cerebral visual impairment (CVI). Roles have also included running training courses for teaching staff, parents and therapists, advising teachers on implementation of OT strategies and programmes and supervision of staff and students.
Nicci has done extensive training both in the UK and USA which includes Sensory Integration qualifications, Sensory Attachment intervention, Intensive mentorship at The Star Centre, Denver, the SOS feeding programme and The Alert programme.
KAREN YOUNG
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
Occupational Therapist, Karen Young, graduated from The London Hospital Medical College in 1995 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Working in the NHS she specialised quickly into Paediatrics and gained experience working with children and young people with a variety of needs including ADHD, DCD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, autism, Aspergers syndrome, cerebral palsy and sensory integration difficulties, in a number of clinical, educational and home settings.
After joining Nicci in independent practice in 2012, Karen has been involved with the assessment and therapy services of children in addition to providing training, consultation and advice for parents, schools, teachers and other related professionals.
Karen’s training has included Sensory Integration, Sensory Integration and childhood trauma and the assessment and treatment of children with developmental perceptual dysfunction and handwriting difficulties. Karen is also studying for the Certification in Ayres’ Sensory Integration (CASI) with ASIWISE and CLASI. Other experiences include SOS feeding groups with a trained therapist and the Alert programme for self-regulation.
SUSAN MELLISH
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT
Susan Mellish is our Occupational Therapy Assistant and has been part of our team since 2014.
Susan’s professional background is in HR Administration and Childcare. She joined us with a BA (Hons) in Health Studies, a Cache Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce Diploma and training and experience working within the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
Working closely with both Nicci and Karen over the years, Susan has gained experience working with children with a variety of different needs and is involved in planning and implementing both individual and group sessions.
Susan has completed training in; The Alert Program for Self-Regulation; The Zones of Regulation; Module 1 of the Certificate in Ayres Sensory Integration with ASIWISE and CLASI; An Introduction to Sensory Integration, Attachment and Trauma; Introduction to Sensory Integration and Yoga and continues to expand her professional development.
Susan also fills the role of office administrator and is likely to be your first point of contact in the office.
Our Occupational Therapists are HCPC registered and all staff are DBS checked, fully insured and members/associate members of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
